When your summer wardrobe consists of tank tops, shorts – even the little black dress – hair removal is an absolute must.  There are a huge variety of home hair removal devices on the market to choose from, from hair removal wax to epilators, lazer to hair removal cream.  The great news is, by buying online, not only can you make your selection from the comfort and convenience of your own home, but benefit from some amazing discounts.  If you’re looking for hair removal products, devices and systems, you’ve come to the right place.  Lets run through the main removal methods.

Shaving

Shaving remains the most popular method of removing unwanted body hair.  It’s fast, convenient and inexpensive.  The drawbacks to shaving are that it can cause skin irritation and ingrown hairs, and the results are fairly short lived.  Another drawback is, because the blade cuts straight across the hair shaft, this leaves a blunt end to regrow.  This causes the hair to regrow as rough stubble.  With waxing, epilation, sugaring and hair removal creams, hair is removed from the root, meaning that the hair will grow back with a tapering end and feel much downier than with shaving.  That said, there’s good reason why shaving remains the #1 method of hair removal today.  It’s virtually pain free, superfast and convenience.  Shaving is not recommended for sensitive areas and never for the face.  But if you need silky soft legs in minutes to throw on that summer dress, shavings probably the way to go.  Whilst wet shaving remains the most popular, there are some great electric shavers on the market these days, eliminating the risk of shaving nicks.  Some models have handy features such changeable heads for underarm areas etc, specifically designed for those hard to reach spots.  Waterproof shavers are a great innovation.  Also, shavers fitted with a spot light are particularly helpful.

Hair Removal Creams

Hair removal mousses and creams have grown in popularity over the years.  Thankfully they have come on in leaps and bounds since the early days, with pleasant fragrancing and some lines designed specifically for sensitive skin.  They are almost as fast and easy to use as shaving.  Removal creams are particularly useful in the bikini area where shaving can be too harsh on delicate skin and lead to rashes and ingrown hairs.  The great thing about removal creams is they give a more longer lasting result.  Though they don’t have the longevity in removing hair as epilating or hair removal wax, the results can last up to a week whereas shaving will last just 1-2 days max.  As mentioned, removal creams lead to tapering of the tip of the hair shaft meaning that the hair will grow back softer and more downy.

Hair Removal Waxing

It was once the case that waxing was the remit of the professional beautician entailing an expensive, and, for the more modest amongst us, often embarrassing, trip to the beauty salon.  Thankfully, since home waxing kits came onto the market we can achieve the same fabulous results from the comfort and convenience of our own home, at a fraction of the price.  It is true to say that waxing isn’t without a degree of pain, though almost every user will be happy to let you know, that this decreases application by application as your skin grows accustomed to it.  There are measures you can take to minimise the pain, such as taking a pain killer half an hour before starting the wax and/or using a special numbing cream.  Alternatively, you can use ice to numb the area immediately prior to application.  The great thing about waxing is you can have hair free, silky soft skin for up to 6 weeks.  That’s right.  6 WEEKS!  No razor burn, no worrying about regrowth or shaving nicks for the whole of your summer holiday.  Waxing is particularly popular on sensitive areas such as the bikini line or facial hair.  You really don’t want stubbly regrowth or ingrown hairs here.

Sugaring

Sugaring as a method of hair removal dates back to ancient Egypt, and it remains a very popular way of removing unwanted hair all across the Middle East to this day.  The principle is very similar to waxing.  You apply the warm sugar paste, followed by a cotton strip then whip off quickly, taking the unwanted body hair with it.  Prior to sugaring, or waxing, you should always take a shower.  Once you have dried the skin thoroughly, apply a layer of talc to your skin.  This will prevent the sugar/was adhering to the skin meaning it only bonds with the unwanted hair.  When you pull away the cotton strip, just the hair will come away, reducing skin irritation and pain.

Threading

Threading, like sugaring, dates back thousands of years.  It is a somewhat difficult technique to master, but there are a great range of guides and handy gadgets on the market to help you.  If you can get the hang of it, you can achieve the same results as with waxing and sugaring for a fraction of the price.  The downside is, it’s quite labour intensive, as you have to work one small area at a time, and isn’t really suited to self removal of hair from awkward spots.  It’s something of an art form and probably best left to professionals.

Tweezers

Tweezers are perfect for small areas such as the eyebrows or for removing the odd stray hair after waxing or epilation.  When using tweezers, it’s important to pluck just one hair at a time and pull in the direction of the hair growth, not against it.

Epilators

Epilators are a fast and effective way of achieving a waxed/sugared finish, but without any of the mess.  Epilators have improved greatly since they first arrived on the market, incorporating some great features to make hair removal as pain free as possible.  Some incorporate a shaver head to allow you to trim the hair before epilating (hair to be epilated or waxed should be no longer than 5mm long – this decreases the pain of removal).  Some feature special attachments for beginner use, awkward areas such as the underarm or bikini line.  Some are designed to be used in water (having a hot bath or shower does make removal easier and less painful as the warmth will open the pores).  Conversely, some incorporate ice features to act as a numbing agent.  Epilators have boomed in popularity over the years for good reason.  They’re easy and convenient to use and with them you can achieve outstanding results.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal systems are a relatively new introduction to the market.  Laser hair removal removes hair permanently, destroying the hair follicle.  The ideal solution to unwanted hair growth, particularly facial hair which can cause embarrassment and discomfort.  It has to be borne in mind that the lasers incorporated in home laser kits are extremely mild, however.  Permanent hair removal is only achievable after months of consistent, repeated use.
